Garret turbo ID and water cooling

I recently bought a jdm wrx sti with rotated turbo setup. It's a Garrett unit with external wastegate. It's only got the oil feeds connected though. The previous morons didnt hook up the water cooling pipes. It seems to run ok though.
Question. How important is water cooling? Porsche air cooled turbos get away without.
Question. How do I ID what exactly it is....I cant seem to find a tag on it. Just Garrett and the a/r 0.6

Major and minor compressor and turbine diameters if someone doesn't say "it a XXX" when you post pictures.

Did they ditch the OEM coolant top tank when they did the rotated turbo? Might have been a case of not being able to plumb in the water cooling rather than an intentional design decision.

The no coolant thing isn't a huge drama even for the Garrett.
