Bill since you are here, what bearings does the fraser use in the bellcranks in the front suspension?

That doesn't seem to make any sense at all sorry.
The loads the rack experiences are independent of what the PS gear is doing, and vastly higher anyway.

well it's what I've been told and since the engineer was NOT keen on the idea of using a de powered rack its out the window.

But power steering uses a torsion bar in the pinion shaft as a device to get it to pump the fluid to the correct side of the rack piston. Maybe the extra load put on the torsion bar due to not getting any assistance could snap it eventually?

on the low ratio part. unless you want a variable ratio rack, you'd be looking for steering arms in the donor car no?

bigger car = longer steering arms for leverage = better ratio with smaller arms?

look to the korean GM such as the last of the daewoos, chances are they use the very convenient to modify camira rack.

I was going to suggest camira as well. They're available new, light and small, and reasonable ratio I think (not that they had to deal with much lock on a camira...)

With a cleansheet you have the chance to put the rack in the right spot so you can engineer steering arms as short as you like. The only issue is the tie rod end getting into the tyre once you try and get ackermann sorted.

there's that mob that use them for falcon rack conversions; the same mob that do falcon strut conversions. They have them ADR approved, so even buying one off them might be an option. they have a web site but I can't remember what it is.

FWIW we have a PS rack in the Malaysian race car and for the last four years have had the hydraulics disconnected with no problems.
