      Hey luke,

Is the ad in your signature the laser cutting guy near your work? I need some exhaust flanges laser cut for my ca18, have cad file and engineering drawings.
Don't worry, thats just the self-preservation instinct, in my experience you can safely ignore it.

Damn it. I take it you must remove the thin pressed steel backing plate that goes behind the cam gears to get the cams out? That sucks because I only unbolted one cam gear since I was only changing one cam..

Shit getting the old one out was easy. Even though I had to put the other cam gear back on to undo the other one it still only took about 45 minutes (I already had the cam covers off though).

With the cam seals. Do they push in like the crank seal? I don't have a new seal yet. Can I put the cam back in and push the new seals on from the front like with the crank seal? I may as well fit a new seal to the exhaust cam too.

you will need sealer under the first cap btw , otherwise you'll be leaking there.

You mean just seal the mating surface between the cap and head? Loctite No3?

Also I pulled a bucket and shim out to take a look then put it back in. Will that have stuffed anything up?

                      Sweet

Just need some seals now. So bearing shops are the go instead of Toyota hey for saving the $$$. Ya reckon CBC at Kingsford smith drive would be a good place to look?

Sweet. Did you use some sort of loctite on the cam cap bolts as TK suggests? Will a film of engine oil on the new seals be all that needed before installation?

the fsm dosent call for loctite , just get yourself a torque wrench , 14 ft-lb for those bolts.
bit of oil on the seal lip is cool , make sure the rest is dry though.

just use common sense when tightening those down.
keep winding the bolts down evenly and turn the cam some every so often and you'll be right.

Cheers mate. I'm off to try and borrow a torque wrench and some feeler gauges that aren't rusted together. :p
