    Hinged/tilt trays on tonner

Considering chucking a hinged joint on the back and having the tray able to be flipped up. Mainly for ease of working on it and so I dont have to cut it up and can mount battery, fuel system, and fuel tank underneath on a lower tray type thing.

    Are these gay?

    Hard to knock up?

Anyone got pics of the type of hinge best used?

    easy.

just make some tabs up and connect it to some tabs located on the rear part of the chassie, then get one of those 4wd inflatable bags that comes off the exhaust. plumb it in fulltime with an on off tap that is easy to get to and that way you just jump out, turn the tap and the tray goes up.

no sure on the legalities. might have to have restraining clips to hold it down so it doesn't fly up at 100km/h on the freeway.

What about a lift off bolt down plate in the middle of the tray?

Make it tilt at the front so you can use it as a mega-drifto spoiler.

          Lol Bill.

carcrazy: Thats the easy option that I'll probably end up using. Just seeing if theres an easy way.

The only bit I'd like a pic of is the rear hinge. Ive got one in a magazine but it looks a bit dodgy and I doubt he carries any load on it.

SLO7: Too complicated.:p I'm usually working on it cos it doesnt run so itd have no exhaust.

i reckon if it's an ally tray, it would be light enough to just hinge and lift up manually. gate hinges ? ask a motor body builder what they use for tippers ? definitely something to lock it at the front. if done right, i see no reason for you not to be able to still carry stuff on it.

why not make it tilt off to one side.

that way you can lift it up to work on it and just have a few clips to lock in the side. or change the mounts so it's just 4 kick ass bolts that you can get to to undo. or make it swivel on the back 2 and just undo the front to to get it up !!!
