    351= old imperial motor
    5.0= newer metric motor (efi)
    5.7## =newer metric motor(efi).

    do not confuse a 302 with a 5.0liter, or a 351 with a 5.7# liter.. bla bla bla...

You cannot get an Engineer's certificate for fitting a 351 into an EA because, legally you must not fit an older motor into a newer car, period!(it's an EPA thing).

You may fit a 5.0 Liter or bigger motor to an EA if the Motor is newer than the body, and if You have the Engineers certifiacte...bla bla bla.

I was under the impression that the US is the last bastian of 'Imperialism'

They are the same engines. 5.8 is just a 351 with a metric measurement applied to it.

My mechanic had a street legal 400HP 351 clevo in an EA but he had to get it engineered in NSW.
I live in VIc. It fitted fine he said and was on LPG.

Ok, here's the rundown (for NSW at any rate):

the motor MUST meet the same ADRs as the car, or LATER (rule of thumb = Motor must be the same age as the car or newer! emissions must meet the newest component ie motor or body).

you cannot run a 351 clevo in an EA as they never made a 351 clevo same year or later than an EA. the onlyt exception is if you run it on LPG or have independant (expensive) emissions testing.

any V8 in an EA must be engineer certified as the XF and EA never came with a V8 of any kind. (dunno about the GT only ever seen one).

Ford did shove a 351 into the EA, Wheels ( and Street Machine) went on about it. 15 second quarters I think.

It was a EFI motor from a F series pickup.

Apprently the whatshis name head off Ford Aus that became US Ford CEO drove it around a fair bit.

If your gunna go a 351 why both with the truck engine Cleavland and not go the smaller Windsor ?

Maybe some of you Ford guys can clarify me thinking here ?

pretty sure they didnt hit production though until the EB. could be wrong. dont care. you'll still need an engineers either way. the late model efi windsor (or 1UZ/VH4* ) is a better option than a clevo anyway IMHO

Regardless, your better off with a Turbo 6, for the cost of the conversion to a stock asthmatic V8 Windsor or Clevo, you could be running a decent turbo setup with atleast 400+hp.

                  Sturmovik,

How about releasing some updates on your turbo 6 project (please)

why bother with a 351 drop in a 302 windsor,302w`s are very underestimated and can make plenty too much power for a streetcar. the engine of choice for U.S. pro street mustangs.

i looked into dropping a 4.6 quad cam 4valve modular engine into an EA, the engine appears about 2 inchs too wide across the rocker boxes.would be sweet tho.

i know a person with a lexus quad cam V8 in an EA, set of aftermarket cams, head work, supra 5 speed, microtec, lotsa goodies, goes great with lotsa room to move

When Jac was head of Ford Australia, he had a 351 EA GT as one of his personal cars (along with a Maverick, chauffer driven LTD and a Sierra)

as Sturmovik pointed out, the 351 does fit, but it was an EFI version, not an old XA, etc motor fitted into the newer EA shell.

personally, why would you bother, the EA falcon is one of the worst fords ever produced, its right up there with the Edsel.

Actually the 4.6L DOHC will fit, and so should the 5.4L DOHC

Max Width (Valve cover to Valve cover) of 4.6 DOHC is 30in
Width of my ED bay, (shock tower to shock tower) which I checked 2mins ago, is a rough 31in.

Also the measurement of the 4.6L DOHC is taken at the front of the valve covers which bulge out about an inch each side. So you would have an approx 1.5in clearance each side between valve cover and shock tower, in an EA-AU(and BA!) with the 4.6L DOHC

5.4L DOHC is about 2.5in wider than 4.6L DOHC, which would give you approx 10mm clearance each side between shock tower and valve cover. Whats the clearance the 5.4L in BAs have? 5mm or something?

Sounds like BA bay wasnt widened to me.....

Amazingly, the 460ci is only 27in wide, BOSS 429 30in wide and 427ci Cammer is 32in.

Oh and Rob, its going slowly...

yes, it was a 351 windsor nasser wedged in the EA (JUST!), a 351 clevo would be NEARLY impossible, due to the taller deck hight. not impossible but pointlessly hard.

a 1600hp blown alky 460 would be sweet, like ben gatts old EB drag car

                          i know i`d much prefer a 4.6 dohc 4v to an old 351 clevo.anyday.

yep sturmovic, its a very rough 31 inches,i taped mine at 30.5,and for my liking thats just to close by the time custom header pipes are added ,to risky for me.

i`ll just stick to the 4L i6, very simple with everything just bolted onto the sides.

as for EA`s being one of the worst produced,VN`s arn`t exactly good either (***flame suit on***)ever been in a late 80`s to early 90`s magna?,they had problems, like most cars do. considering the bad rep aussie R31`s & VL`s, the EA`s didn`t do so bad.

the amount of e-series that have clocked up huge klm`s (like 600000klm+) must say at least something, same as the 10`s of thousands that ended up as reliable taxi`s,beaten, bashed and thrashed day after day, year after year with minimal problems.

I'm sorry to but in, but with an engineers certificate, you CAN put an older engine of any desciption into a newer car, AS LONG AS it has equal or better emmisions than the engine it is replacing, and meets the maximum engine capacity guidelines. And a 351 clevo and windsor will both fit in an EA, i have personally helped drop an lpg clevo out of a xd into an ea some 6 or 7 years ago.

I have a friend here in darwin who has an EA with a 302 in it, Its all legal, engineers certificated and everything. I was going to buy it of him for $5000, but bought a turbo 6 ea instead. No reason for this, just that the turbo was a price I couldnt knock back. I think the car is still for sale... not sure.
if its only got four cylinders, then it should only have two wheels!!!
