Got a second hand series 2 ignitor from USA motor ebay
kinda funny the plugs (one small and one big) match exactly what the series one has BUT they are on different sides - so instead of changing a couple of wires - had to rewire the whole thing - every single wire - because the plugs had to be swapped.

anyway long story short - still fucked (when hot) Pol Pot - PM sent!

a whole spare motor is almost as cheap as a set of coil packs

I've got 5 RB coils left(sold one already) if you get desperate. Pull them out and have a look. Diagnosis > parts swapping.

After coming home from Pol Pot's last night it was doing it again and since I've taken the valley cover off when swapping ignitors I thought I'd have a look and OMG

You can see them arcing! Cylinder 1 and 6 were continuously shorting out and 2 and 5 did it a few times too!

Might give them a paint and see how they go.

JZK25 how much you want for said coils?

I have two full sets of perfectly functioning series 1 coils here. I bought/use Splitfires because I assumed I'd need them but now I don't know why. The other set came out of a car I wrecked (dismantled) with a buddy.

The splitfire part number is the same for both RB20 and RB25S1. So yes.

FWIW I'm getting a set of Splitfires from Jesse Streeter for ~$537.

Probably. As per my thread on the topic, all the secondhand ones are secondhand. So likely nearly as fucked as the ones that are dying in your car now. At least new ones won't bother you for a looong time.

That said, none of the 2nd handers that I've chucked in have died yet (that'd be #s 4,5&6). But they will eventually leave me stranded on a hot day, which I will avoid if possible.
