idle control solenoid would make perfect sense, as it runs fine off idle, and gets worse once you turn the air on.

Will pull the throttle body off and try to unstick the solenoid. It seems that they get gummy and stop opening, rather than failing.

      I reckon it's farked.

should have bought a diesel 4.2 GQ.

they don't get these sort of issues.

Why would an idle control solenoid make it miss? If it stalled as you came up to the lights or when you put your foot on the brake then that would make sense.

do the injector thing if possible, try and identify if it's cylinder specific or not

It's a mitsubishi, if the exhasut valve is stuffed then the guides will be stuffed as well.

will do this first, as it is probably the easiest thing to do

Don't forget there's a fucking annoying manifold in the way. Pulling injector plugs is only gonna happen on the rh bank.
I'm looking at vaccuum leak, somewhere around the front of the manifold, behind the thermostat. Have heard of them cracking occasionally, never seen it myself.

Unplug an injector one at a time to isolate the cylinder missfiring.

                    Go from there with diagnostics.

i'm with the guys that said possible valve issues.

i would do a cylinder leak down test.

mitsubishi are not known for making good engines.

does it blow the mandatory mitsubishi blue smoke on take off as well?

The thing has gotten worse, and it is almost definately a borked valve, you can hear it in the exhaust, going to compression test it tomorrow and then rip one of the heads off. No biggie, glad I got the car cheap though

It is a 92, 3 L. I won't be pulling it down today, I just realised I need it Tuesday.
