... as I often say but rarely get listened to, horsepower means effectively nothing when talking about how strong a gearbox is. Torque is the limiting factor.
You can break any gearbox with 1hp if you enough torque.

About 440rwhp 355 VK commodore, couldnt make it to the dyno before the box fucked up, twice.

when are you picking it up?

T400 for a streeter, 'glide for a racer.

My glide shits me for street driving, cruising along at 60 or 80 & I want to give it a squirt - 2 options, leave it in top or bang it back to 1st.

If I leave it in top she comes up on boost a bit slow - engine is not turning hard enough to bring it on fast, & motor is below peak torque, so although it'll still take off like a scalded cat I know it is potentially much quicker - which sux.

If I bang it back to first it'll come on boost fast & hard, combined with the fact that I'm in bloody first gear the thing instantly goes into wheelspin, motor slams against the limiter & car lurches sideways towards the nearest power pole, if I can catch the fucker I can then slam it into top - which just results in more rapid wheelspin, even further sideways & brown undies.

Somewhere in between would be nice....

Enough revs on board to get it on boost fast, enough gear ratio to get up & fuck off, but not so much ratio that things get sketchy.

From a standing start it makes no difference, its wheelspin or wheelspin, but from a roll a 3rd ratio would be nice.

not, probably going to get this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HUP-34-3/, only 500 postage with a bunch of other parts including a convertor. Same box would be 2.5-3k locally, so I am just going to take the risk.
