me also. been reading up on them over the last few weeks. from what i gather, on the R32's, the oil pump drive on the crank is half as long as it should be, which puts extra load on the oil pump and they fail.Originally posted by rob_RA40 View Postbeing a toyota phag who secretly wants to own a R32 GTR but knows nothing of them, id like to hear a serious answer to the question.
however you can put later cranks into earlier engines, and i even found a joint making sleeves to put over the original drive.
as playa said, the turbos are on edge at 14psi, and when they fail, they can go back through the engine.
its pretty easy to find GTRs with blown motors, and theres a fair few around with r33/34 motors already installed.
been looking into engine prices, cant believe how expensive they are. cunts want like $6-8k for a half cut, $2-4k for an R32 2.6l, yet gearboxes start at around $700! by the time you buy one with a blown motor, and swap em round, you may aswell get one already running.Originally posted by Rdyno70ynu has to be the most retarded cunt here. Nissan lovers might not like this - but they are not as good as a 2j from factory.
Oil control/supply are their weak point. Fixable with the right pump/sump/head mods. Early 32's are the worst for this.
They are known to split blocks at high output unless you go the N1 block.
Regardless - they are still an incredible engine. for a 2.6l to be able to make great power Nissan did something right.
Its been touched on before - people buy 20 year old GTR's that have been flogged all their lives then wonder when it dies shortly after.
Properly modded, properly tuned, and properly maintained a healthy 26 should lead a decent life.
For those of you who remember, my friends 34 GTR that was for sale on here was making 520ish hp at the wheels, and driven HARD for almost two years with a dead stock R32 RB26 in it.
It had good parts, great tuning, and he made sure it was serviced when it needed it.
I could go through a list of friends with GTR's, some with stock engines, some with full internals head work etc that all make great power and have had decent lifespans.
On the flip side there is always horror stories of brand new super $$$ engines going bang.. but there is always a story behind those.
p.s the driving experience between a rb26 and rb30 is worlds apart. There is just something a little special about a 26 screaming its lungs out at 9000rpmOriginally posted by brasherTJ is 99% African American.

it's more about cool factor.
rb30 is the obvious choice dollar for dollar, but the rb26 and it's apparent ability to be revved to the shitter (after extensive mods) is kinda cool. there's also something mystical about the rb26, 2jz are a little done to death (albeit for good reason) because they re so cheap and widely availableOriginally posted by 350stato100% agree with Shifty

If this thread was 3 years old we would be saying 26's had been done to death and 2j was the new and mystical engine.
Times change quick!
p.s all those RB30 lovers who say dollar for dollar a 30 is cheaper.. well you still need to build a full bottom end, do headwork, get a custom "cam" etc etc.. there wouldnt be that much difference.... except you can buy a rb30 block for a carton from bazza's wreckers.. while a n1 block is 3k or so.Originally posted by brasherTJ is 99% African American.

Mines 7500....
Has been since I fitted the PFC not long after purchase.
20yr old unopened motor in mine....with power limited to 400 @ the wheels is the secret to success.
My old RB30 would only have useable power up to around 5500rpm, made 380rwHP and had a far far chunkier torque curve......but was slower in an R31 in almost every department bar 5th gear roll ons1978 Opel Manta SR Berlinetta 1UZFE
