Run the smallest, light weight proper wheel you can find with the smallest "eco" low rolling resistance tyre you can find?

Yeah might ditch the space saver idea and go with this. I'll find a narrow 17 and stretch the narrowest tyre i can get on it.

A few years back, a guy I know ran RX7 spare wheels and tires at the drag strip. It took us a fair bit of time to shave off the "MAX 50 MPH" and "TEMPORARY USE ONLY" lettering, but they worked fine for a couple of runs.

Granted, this was on a slow car, but it did seem shady enough to make me grin when it passed inspection at the track.
