i'd be more than down with the idea of any late model bmw i6 engine, but they are expensive to fix etc if shit goes wrong and really without a turbo, unless it's an m3 six it's not going to have the outright power of the sr20det unless you throw on a turbo as well and that's going to add to the complications in my books.

    would sound very nice however.

would a late model 6 require custom mounts/sump for an e30 or straight drop in with a 6 cylinder crossmember?

with the right sump (e34 525i) it's bolt in. Custom headers and some wiring is required, but a turbo would need all that. The aluminium m52s really need iron sleeves to hold big boost (+20psi)

I had a 2001 model E46 323i manual, car was gutless, had about 124kw I think. Looked into getting more power out of it like every car I own and it would cost big bucks, not worth the money considering this is a el chepo project car.

The 1UZ doesnt make all that power, and to get power out of it, 4 cams? exhaust, tuning is going to be harder, and then your stuck with same power as a slightly boosted sr20det for double the cost, no thanks.

LS1 on the other hand would be amazing, imagine 280rwkw out of an e30, but the cost of an LS1+T56 is way out of budget for this car.

SR20det, already familiar with nistune, have half the hardware here, if wanting more power chuck on a T28, engine can be had for 500, same for tranny, use standard diff apparently there half decent.

Same with 2Js and 1Js, too expensive, plus there cast iron, will throw weight off this is a race car!

Car will be track only, but i have a feeling ill want to engineer this for the road later so photos will be taken along the way.

The cost of turboing a non turbo engine is CBF at the moment, so SR20DET still comes trump for price/weight.

A bmw motor would be nice, but too expensive, not worth it.

Car has been brought for $700, engine I will find for no more then $500. Tranny round the same. (missed out on a sr20det with stuffed rings for $100 , going to have to wait a while to find another bargin like that.)
                All mounts/work done by myself.
                ECU will be nistune.

As you can see this is going to be the cheapest race car ever built!

Once I start collecting parts I will create a build thread and total costs, I reckon this thing would be driving around for under 3K.

Reliability is a must for obvious reasons.
The sr20det in stock form with usual upgrades including T28 will make 200rwkw. From those dodgy rough calculators it will give a quarter mile in the low 12s. (car stripped and weighing 1ton)

After this the sr20det is no good without internals.

Im thinking possibly an RB25det, and put out 250kw at the wheels to give the speed I want.

Has anyone seen one of these in an E30? also having an R33 previously working on that motor is a breeze.

arhhh the decisions, definitely tossing up between these two engines now. It might just comes down to whatever I can get my hands on for a reasonable price first.

SR20s are much more popular in E30s. There is a bloke with an RB26 in an E30 in the US and that was a complete cunt to fit, even without having the steering linkage on the wrong side (for him). The brake booster would fuck you pretty hard with an RB I'd think.

Don't put an RB in there. It's a big heavy thing compared to the SR. And extra 50kW is no compensation for lumbering the front end of the car with an RB. If you were going to put an iron straight 6 in it you'd be mad not to use a 2J, and you 'd still be mad to do that rather than an SR.

Z32/350z MT gearbox options... Light compact, well supported, different.

Used to be a black E30 on the coast with an RB25 in it, looked terrible, dont realise how big those motors are until you put them in something else.

ca18 is even lighter than an SR...
if weight and cost is a big point to consider.
it would be even lighter and cheaper with a CA.

*insert a CA is an RB26 with 4 cycliners fanboi remarks here*

                            really though..
                            go a CA.
                            SR has been done.
                            on here even

try the CA for shits and giggles.

Should have some German engineering BMW engine in it, shame for considering otherwise, cheap skate :D

                                2JZ is zee German....

                                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_JZ_engine

"The 2JZ-GTE is an inline-layout, six-cylinder, belt-driven dual-overhead camshaft, air-intercooled, twin-turbocharged, cast-iron block, aluminium cylinder headed engine designed and manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation that was produced from 1991 until 2002 in Japan. Development and evolution of the engine was, principally, a response to Nissan's relatively new and then-successful RB26DETT engine which had achieved palpable success in FIA Group A and Group N touring car championships, worldwide. Final development of the 2JZ-GTE was outsourced to German engineering firm Johann A. Krause Maschinenfabrik GmbH for refinement to meet production car homogolation requirements set forth by the former All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship."
