So how is the emission part fooled, I assume that the front sensor also performs the usual engine fuel mixture function. Or I have a new 3" cat which probably would flow better than stock so that might help economy, if fitting it with one sensor in front and one behind won't cause problems.

if the new cat doesn't clean up the emissions as well as the OEM cat it will display the dreaded MIL - there's some bumpf on ford forums about cats with no less than 200 somethings being OK

Put prius tyres on trailer, remove weight from "race car"...
probably pick up a couple l/100 just by pulling that godawfull high downforce wing off the son of dat.

Why can't you piggyback/splice output from front Oxy into rear Oxy = CAT working perfectly ECU = happy?

Because the ECU is looking for a delta to see that the cat is doing it's thing.

A resistor (or POT if you want to get fancy) will fix that

But yeah if its looking for different delta's at different operating temperatures etc, it might be a little trickier. Nothing that couldn't be worked around though. A jaycar DFA or the like would be able to give fair control over a contour with it's 62 load points across 0-5V.

you can buy from wildcat in South Africa these "mini cat" things, that screw into the o2 sensor bung port, and then the o2 sensor screws into them - they're apparently very effective when used for installations where a pre-cat is removed to fit headers.

If you ever get a big powah car then you will need a wing too The wing only goes on at the track and actually low rolling resistance tyres on a trailer make sense, will keep that in mind.

people put big exhausts on bf-fg turbo's and never heard a case of the engine check light coming on.

That's an idea, check to see what is done with the modded turbo exhausts.

Just towed a 1100 kg Jayco half - height caravan type thing 1000 k's for the long weekend just gone (in WA, that is). Sat on 100 kmh and got 14 L/100 ks one way and 14.8 on the return trip (headwind + a/c on). This is with an 07 AWD 6 speed Tezza I just picked up a month ago. That is pretty good economy in my book for what it was towing and how comfortable it does it. Left it in 6th with cruise on during level sections. So not really sure why the need to get better economy that that.

It even copped a 4WD bashing at the destination (beach and bit of mud hole action). Apart from the inbuilt 'no ground clearance' issues it did very well and surprised the hardcore 4WD's I tagged along with. Thinking of getting some spare rims and fitting bigger cheap tyres (245 x 70 profile) which can be fitted for instant 30 mm lift in height when going offroad. Seems the easist reversible trick I can think of to get semi decent clearance under it.

Nothing wrong with that fuel useage 200, seems like a six speed is the key.

Yeah, in the 2500 k's of ownership before towing duties, it averaged 12.9 l/100 around town at average speed of 41 km/h. All according to trip computer. So I'm well impressed with economy. And it drives far better than any other 4WD/SUV/Dual Cab I've driven, and I get to drive a lot of hire cars out bush for work. Tezza drives like a falcon (well, of course it would), but with firmer suspension, which I like. 6 Speed is very good, and I hate autos. Chalk and cheese between 6 speed and all the the old 4 speeds, which are useless for towing. 4 too tall, 3rd too short. My old man tows the van with his 4 speed falc. The lockup clutch has given up in it too... Got a gear for every occasion with 6 speed and clutch stays locked in pretty much all the time for that no torque converter slipping feel, which I hate. 4 speed is cheap if goes bang. 6 speed much less so (5.5k cost my mate to sort out 6 speed with BF2 turbo when his got a dose of coolant from heat exchanger corroding through).

But yeah, go the Petrol Tezza. Any money you save on fuel with diesel will bite you when it busts something (like direct injectors). Ford 6 won't die and it's just a trip to the wreckers for another if it does.

Bad news is Ford also stipulate speed limits based on the weight you're towing with the Territory. Good news is they are higher than the speed limits they impose on Falcons.

                                100 kph for 1200kg, 95kph for 1600kg, 85kph for 2300kg and 80 for 2700kg.

I don't think cars rated to tow at restricted speeds should actually be allowed to claim their high tow ratings without clearly stating the speed restriction every time! Gives people the completely wrong idea about the actual towing capacity of the vehicle.

Also, "the Ford approved load levelling kit must be used for a laden trailer mass greater than 1600kg and/or a towball download greater than 160kg."

But even so, from that shortlist in your sig, I'd still choose the Territory over the Jeep!!!
