This is one of the tool options to make the job easier. Basically a tool to line up the inlet & exhaust in sync, then a clamp to lock them in place while you wrangle the head back onto the block, and then you just slip the gears and chains on (can do the inlet/exhaust gears/chain on the bench). As long as you have the crank locked in place too it'll all go together "easy". But without having all this shit lined up at the start you're fucked.

May still be easier and involve less butt-hurt to strangle mate with one of the timing chains.

I'll buy one then whack it on the bill. He can keep the tool afterwards! I only want to do it once.

Think he thinks I'm capable cos I can tear down an Evo motor with one eye open or rip out a gearbox in 50 minutes on my own.
These v8 things are a world apart for me!

If you think of it as two Evo motors sharing a block it may seem easier. Actually the stupid cam timing issue is a lot like the 4 cylinder Duratecs which don't have keyways etc! Anyway as near as I can tell, it's not hard if you have a brain and something like the right tools...

The Head bolts are torque to yield, as is the crank pulley bolt and the cam sprocket bolts.
Do the timing chain tensioners at the same time - especially if it rattles on start-up.

Ford Racing Parts (bought via Summitracing.com) will be the cheapest bet, that head-change kit includes head bolts, and gaskets. The Timing chain set includes plastic tensioners but the rest of the kit is great, all chains, the seconary tensioners, all sprockets, guides and fasteners! Getting metal tensioners from modularmustangracing.com or similar for about $180 a set if he wants to be like the cool kids. Plastic tensioners are claimed to crap out quicker (true)...

I think about $500 in parts, $200 in special tools and sundry shit and about 6 hours if it all goes well... (I'm betting it won't go well)

Below is pic where those fucking o-rings live

Well we know you haven't committed suicide yet, nor locked up for murder, so you either got the job done no hassle or haven't tried it yet?
