It's $2k for the muffler and $2k for the extractors/heat exchangers, once postage etc is factored in.

Also it's not a case of cheaping out. It just seems to be disporportionate to the amount of metal and fabrication that goes into them.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

I already have a full stainless exhaust that's not the question. A "race" muffler for it is $1200 for it and that is just tax plain and simple. We already understand how the mufflers on Sam,Jim's and my car works as posted by Sam. The problem is they work a little to well...
The question at hand is can exhaust gas have a contrary flow on a muffler if its not just an open chamber but a chamber with 2 perforated pipes flowing in the opposite direction. Will this give us the same effect as kissing the two pipes together at some point while also acting as a slight sound damper?

I don't think a common muffler will work as a balance pipe because it won't dissipate the exhaust pulses or share them between the two sides.

Could you sneak a little balance pipe across in front of the muffler to connect left and right?

Try it without the balance pipe then if it sounds shit put one in. Or just do that x pipe setup with two mufflers it looks heaps cooler.

If only you needed a side pipe for an R34… I'm heaps sick at making those :D

can always stack two offset mufflers I suppose. Seems to be a fair bit of room behind the bar.

I am going to try and knock up the x-pipe to two muffler kind of thing Sam posted.

i'm thinking i want to remove my heater boxes - is there much more power in extractors?

Couldn't you just stick a conventional muffler in where the big long pipes of fuck all are?

Just whack a tip on the muffler and jam it up near the bar.

yep i have seen two short mufflers instead of megaphones.
but those headers curve forward though to give the space for them though - normal headers do not.
the exhaust on most 911's will look like this, doesn't curve forward like that at all, to run into a big muffler lengthwise under the rear bumper.

would be the first thing to check though!

stix i think there is roughly 20hp in a really good system, but i think the engines are closely tuned with the stock manifolds and run lean with an aftermarket exhaust unless tuned/chipped (not 100% sure on this).

not a problem for uncle with his carbs, but i ended up getting a chip for mine anyway.

FWIW, they say that for a 964, 993 headers are worth 10hp...dunno if they can be fitted to the G-series motors tho

I reckon that would flow the bestest and sound the smoothest/flattest in my expert, never even worked on a Porsche opinion. You might even fit some small offset mufflers in either side if you want some quietness.
