I think a small amount of lube would be more appropriate.

If you want to modify the die so you can bottom it out on one side, send it up and I'll sort it.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Sounds like you got it sorted, but ACME threads and nuts are common in low end CNC stuff.

Caliper bolts with a cast caliper and alloy upright should be plated or some sort of SS grade?
Bolt I'm left with is Zinc flake coated M12x43, 1.5 pitch. Shortening this to 40mm length, fucks the coating doesn't it?

I would be looking to get a suitable bolt from an OEM parts bin.

M12x40 should be reasonably common I guess.

                    EDIT

These ones with the thread locker on them out of the bag are for mounting brake calipers.

So after successfully fixing this issue in my own car, I had a customer bring his in today for the same fix.

Got the broken gear off his pedal box, and thought "I'll just try the new brass gear on the spindle first, before re-cutting the thread"

Well fuck my brown dog, the fucken gear spun freely onto the spindle, no binding or grabbing, it was fucking perfect.

                      What. The. Fuck.

His being built in mid-2006, vs mine mid-2004, apart from that, all the same shit.

                      So I don't know...

I tried his original gear on the ACME threaded rod "gauge" and it's even looser than my original gear.

                      Fucking cars.
