Threaded spark plug hole. What to do?

If your spark plug hole in your head has a stripped thread, what can you do about it? This one isn't that bad as it will hold a reasonable amount of tension, but it's still fairly easy to turn it far enough that the thread slips.

At least the car appears to be running alright atm, but I can see it being a potential problem down the track.

    Edit: Silly mistake

Better to repair it....ever seen the damage from a spark plug ejected at high speed ??....not pretty...

Anyway, any bolt specialist or even places like repco should be able to get you a spark plug thread repair kit, which is just a thread insert (recoil brand or similar). Not a terribly difficult job, and can be done with the head in the car. Probably looking at $30-$40 for the kit.

Um, it'd be head, not block

I would have thought this would cause a drop in compression in the pot affected. You can get helicoils to repair it (I think) but it probably isn't something you could do with the head on the car due to having to bore the hole out, then tap, then helicol. Also the coil itself has a bit on the end which would block the plug, another reason to remove the head.

I'd be dealing with it unless it causes a problem.

Edit: LAMBS - is it really that easy? I would have thought the procedure would be more like how I described. I'm happy to be wrong though.

Yes it is that easy..done many without problems..plenty of grease is used on the tap to trap the swarf and a pair of needle-nose pliers is used to break-off the 'tang' (carefully of course, but no big deal).
