    VT Acceleration Problem (Intermittent)

    Hey Everyone,

My parents own a VT series one, 6 cylinder with the 460LE Autobox. It has 220,000 kilometres on the clock and has recently developed an intermittent problem. At highway speeds (80-110kph), when kicked down it downshifts to second, and seems to run out off puff completely over about 4400rpm! It is weird because most people who have driven one would know that the V6's will pull right to the redline, yet this one seems to give up the ghost completely and hang on to second as if its life depended on it. Easing off the accelerator will let it go up to third, the revs will drop to around 3000rpm and away she goes.

Funny part is that it doesn't happen all the time. EG the other night i drove home like I the car belonged to telstra, with no worries, yet the nexxt morning the friggin car goes all "diesel" on me when I pull out to overtake a truck. Scary moments in the fog...

    What could be the problem?

usually the leads on them die, but thats more a missfire that comes at all speeds...

the fuel filter should only be 20,000km old, but maybe check that also.

they do also have big probs with the fuel pump/sender unit, maybe get a fuel pressure gauge from somewhere and go for a drive? see what the fuel pressure does while the car is dying...

Sounds a lot like fuel supply issue.
Commies have pump problems on a regular basis.
Maybe try filter (cheaper) first, as it could also be the problem.

Doesn't sound mechanical or ignition related form the description.

check the resistance on the coil packs & DFI module, they are a common fault to brake down at operating temp
