If the head isnt fkd, im just gonna reuse it.. and a head gasket set is THAT MUCH?!?!? Damn, full engine rebuild kits (gaskets only) are like $80+.. i got the throttle body off now, getting my keyboard dirty here too erm, there isnt much crap in the plenum, just a bit of dirt.. taking off the cams now, i got a feeling it might even be the top of the head gasket.. does any water lines run through there? Caus there is oil all over the top, and under there, looks like its leaking from there..

Read what I said right at the start - rebuilding 5MGEs (in fact most M engines) isn't a cheap hobby.

A non genuine VRS kit will be anywhere from $3-500 (prices can vary wildly), and a genuine one is about $500.

A head gasket on its own will set you back around $100. If you are careful, you might be able to salvage the intake and exhaust gaskets such that they are reuseable with the aid of some silicone.

        Sorry to shock you.

there is no water in the cam boxes or rocker covers. only in the head itself and manifold.

white leeching marks are often caused by running too much coolant, dont go overboard with the stuff.

Stenno, yeah, since he decided to make it a full sports sedan the gloves have kinda come off heheh

I didn't get a chance to twist his arm as he declined an offer to go for a spin in the thing *shrugs*.

GT is on the money, M engines cost a f*ckload to rebuild, especially to do it properly - Save your pennies and go for a JZ engine.

eck, yea, i didnt think you meant it like in gaskets and stuff though, thats ok, i dont mind spending.. erm, i think, $195 on a metal head gasket? I believe i read somewhere that they cost about this much.. Anyway, im down to the shops to find the right prices on these gaskets etc.. ill just get the proper ones, money isnt a problem, but the less i spend now.. the more for 1jz later and the 1jz sooner.. but id rather have a reliable car at the moment for the next while.. 127kW's at the motor isnt toooo bad at the moment, considering my dad is going to make a custom exhaust manifold, and i have a pod already waiting to go on.. some timing advance, i only use bp ultimate anyway, and whalla.. im sure it would get about 140kW's... legally (i think) .... (gonna anyway ) ... i can remove the cat :D so its going to be one muffler.. straight pipe.. 140kW's at the motor at higher revs is better than my old 130rwhp R31 Skyline (which was only like 125kW's at the motor)

ANYTHING is better than dad's 52kW laser im driving at the moment!

I think I might have misled you.... I called my friend who informed me a 'no name' head gasket on its own is more like $150-180!

The lesson here is only pull off what you absolutely have to and do it carefully.

when I did mine I bought a fuelmieser kit which was bordering on being cut out of cereal boxes, which was around $100ish, and then bought just the head gasket from toyota which was around $120ish from memory.

from toyota the whole kit for the 7M was upwards of $600!!

Oh crap... a head gasket from Toyota is $160..

With metal gaskets? What materials are these made from? I might go make another post for this.. but since this one is getting really long.. i might keep it, archive it, so if anyone else wants to do a 5mgeu (FKN PAIN IN THE ASS) head gasket.. they can see what trouble i had to go thru.. and its only been 2x 1/2 days now

Everything is apart or loose now.. just one bolt on the cam housing and then that top part all comes off.. then the head bolts come off.. and the inlet parts all come out for a clean.. then the gasket will get made on the weekend.. and then?

Everything will go AS FAR AWAY from plan as possible.. it always happens

I seriously need to get this bolt off.. any suggestions?

Looks like this isnt going to plan.. the motor is really pissing me off.. and this bloody bolt wont even drill out.. oh well... ive sourced a 1G-GTE for the car, complete with ECU and wiring harness, turbo's and the lot.. going to pick it up 2moro. The only problem now is will my A43D Gearbox fit that motor? If not, does anyone know if i can bolt another supra box up to the motor and have it fit the tailshaft? Or do i have to change the lot? I can get a A340D i think it is.. gearbox relatively cheap, which i think came with the Z20 soarers and older supras.

dont forget - a cheap motor may be hiding many problems (ie its rooted too). Best to pay a little extra and get a good quality one. 1jzs and 1Gs are starting to get quite old and have high kms.
