    Red 6 Supercharger Kits

Has anyone had any experience with these kits from the Rod Shop? Seen them advertised in Street Machine a fair bit and if they don't sound like too bad value. Does anyone know whether you can run stock internals and what other mods need to be done? I've emailed CRS but just want some personal experiences...

    Cheers

Just had a look at the CRS site. It says the s/charger is from a Toyota engine. I'm assuming that it would be off something like the 1gge 2Litre 6. I have read somewhere that these blowers are not designed for constant use. Probably be worth asking CRS what mods they do to the blower to enable it to run under load full time.

There's a kit around that uses a wade supercharger.Sometimes these come up for sale second hand.A mate has one in a fc panelvan which goes quite well.

personally i think $1800 for only 50% increase is daylight robbery

you would be FAR better off going for say a RX7 turbocharger which is only about $200 or less, and the whole job could be done all up for less than $1000 and give you a LOT more power

im really not a fan of those toyota blowers, they just dont have the minerals to make good power on a larger engine... sure a "nice" improvement over stock on a VN V6, but thats about IT...

bigger and better blowers tend to cost way too much

you can run stock internals as long as your engine isnt on its last legs, and you would need to decompress the engine a little to run some decent boost, tho you might get away with 5 or 6psi on standard comp

have a look at my reply in this post to see how easy it is

I have played with these Toyota blowers myself a fair bit, and have to agree.

They are not suitable for any engine over two liters, and they wear out very quickly if continuously driven or overspeeded.

BUT, if you do all the work yourself, they are a good introductory way to learn all about supercharging. But I would never consider buying a kit, or pay to have one fitted.

I ran a Wade on a red motor many years ago, and it went very well. But if you buy one of these blowers, make sure it has a front driveshaft snout, pulley, and front gear cover already fitted. If you buy a bare blower straight off a Commer diesel you will then have to make these parts yourself.

Your best bet is a secondhand Eaton from a Holden V6, at least you will be able to get parts for it. If you are prepared to pay $3,000 a Whipple screw blower is going to be far better than a new Eaton roots blower for the same money.

There is a bloke who makes blower kits for red motors - Geoff Ramsey at Greystanes in Sydney. From memory about $5k and he ran an 11s pass in an EH with one of these blowers.

His son posts under the name Real Per4mance - he should be able to tell you more.

why stuff around, a ex-OEM turbo can make far more power than you need and only cost around 3 digits

Thanks for the info guys. Looked at the site again and doesn't seem so stright forward and exciting as first thought. There was a turbo kit for a red six in the trading post the other day for $2k, nearly phoned the guy for some info. Still just looking though, not too worried about leaving it as is. And once the money gets into $ks , an engine uprgrade seems more economical ...

if your keen to do most of the work yourself, you could certainly get a hefty increase in power without putting too much strain on the engine for less than $1000 in total... think about it
