    That's bollocks.

Hell, the 911s aren't even high-maintenance engine.. you just have to make sure the oil level is right (like any car) and, for the older cars, adjust the valves at the right intervals (which isn't a huge deal anyway).

Upgrades to 928 in the grunt department will result in busted 'boxes (unless you go with an auto).
I have researched a 928s pretty hard as a historic tarmac rally car (pre 1981) & the 'boxes are a major problem. Even when you put a $15k holinger internal kit in them they just split the case.

The 928 GTS 6 speed is an exception but is rare, expensive & not eligiable in what I wanted

You can slot the 20V turbo 5cyl Audi engine into a 924 or 944 for a heap more poke..

Trouble is that such an engine is probably just as expensive and hard to get as a Porsche 944 turbo engine (or even proably a 968 engine) anyhow.. Would go hard though...

A SR20,13BT or EJ20T would be a a option thanks to cheap jap import engines however the engineering involved would be $$.. You would need lots of custom stuff done and how strong is the 924 transaxle? You may need to then get a transaxle out of a 944T or 968 whatever..

Maybe the cheapest option would be to find a wrecked 924T or 944/T where the engine bay is still ok and do a conversion from that.. Maybe even a good jap importer can get you a halfcut ex-Japan?
