    overheating

car in question is a toyota 4runner.. noticed that coolant was coming out the overflow bottle which was abit odd.. checked the temp sensor and its not overly hot.

i just turned the car on and coolant is pooring out the overflow.. not a hot day, car hasnt really ha a hard day just a trip to uni and back along the freeway.

any ideas.. cant check the coolant level just yet as its bloody hot to touch, but checked ti recently and it was full.... and there isnt any leaks.

any ideas why its doing this?

Had this happen on an L-series Nissan engine once...was caused by a blown head gasket. Cylinder pressure was over-pressurising the cooling system and forcing coolant out of the radiator. Any signs of coolant in the engine oil ??

hmm dunno.. if the temp isn't getting high.. perhaps your radiator cap is cactus?

ok well i just went up squeezes the radiator hose and there was no pressure so i took off the cap and the coolant level is fine. its completely full. the overflow bottle is also compltely full, overly full actually, yet a fair amount of coolant came out when it overflowed.. dont know where it got this extra coolant from..

really dont know what teh problem is.. radiator caps seems as if its ok but i'll have a stuff around with the car and see what i can figure out

might drain the oil later.. dip stick looks fine under the oil cap seemed ok too..

also when i take the radiator cap off and start it adn give it some gas should it have enough pressure/flow to make the coolant flow out the top...

hmm thats jsut brilliant.. i just read now on the net that its a common thing.. searched for 4runenrs and blown headgastes and up came about a billion people complaining about this happening just for no good reason
