    L28 combo's

I just picked up a L28E out of a 280ZX. Its got an N42 head on there (were these standard in aus? I know they werent in the US) with an F54 block. Did all of the L28E engines have flattop pistons?

    Cheers

N42/F54 is the more common L28E combo, my 280zx has one as do most others I have seen.

I also beleive all F54 blocks left the factory with dished pistons other than those with P79 heads.

Thanks. I think the std compression is only about 8.3 with that combo....think I will need some head shaving.

8.3? Damn. I thought it was more than that.

I know the L26's are 8.3:1. I'd really like more than that when/if I ever get around to building up a mild L28.

Just did a bit of a search and you're quite right, 8.3:1.

              Staying NA?

My plan when I was in the L28 NA phase was P90 head, flat top pistons, triple webers or more favourably Haltech e6k and speed technology independant throttle bodies.

Compression wise the flat tops will raise it as you know and they are not all that expensive, Gordon can supply them from datperform.com as can most places.

Roughly what sort of money are we talking for the flat tops?

Im planning on staying NA for the time being. Im just not prepared to spend uber amounts of money on my car right now. The flattops bring up around 10:1 compression right? Our premium should be able to deal with that...

I cant remember, i just remember thinking "is that all?"

There are plenty of cars getting around with flat tops, premium should be fine.

If anyone manages to get in contact with this guy and gets prices on the flattops, I would be interested to know

Have you guys considered using the LD28 crank to take it out to 3 litres?

LD28 crank is pretty hard to get, and once you do find one they are usually pretty exxy. One day I might do it though.

Im shooting for about 150-170hp though, so shouldnt need 3.1 Litres.

Hoping to do it with L28E, flattops, ported intake manifold, bigger TB(64mm..I think), big headers and exhaust, cam, 300zx MAF (70mm) and possibly 300zx ECU
