    Cordia overheating

while running the cordia turbo during hot days i've noticed it does get quite hot very quickly, especially while idling. when driving at a decent speed the temp gauge begins to drop but proceeds to shoot up again when i stop. it also takes a while to cool down, i cant run the turbo timer for very long (around a minute) for this reason.

anyone have any suggestions on how to cool the engine down?
would intercooling make any difference in this regard??

    thanks in advance.

Try removing the thermostat altogether and see if that fixes your problem. If it does then it means your thermostat was stuck shut, which is quite a common thing to happen.

well the funny thing is the thermostat was stuffed previously (the car was thinking the engine was cold and therefore dumping in more fuel & running rich) but it is now fixed.

or are turbos simply known for hot running temperatures in heatwaves prehaps?

They do tend to get a bit hot, but not normally overheating hot. The radiator is prone to blocking as well, try holding your hand near the radiator to check for hot spots.

check if your thermofan is running, ive had the exact same problem with my turbo celica a couple of times. you sit at the lights and the temp goes almost to red, take off and it drops to normal?

you can check it by leaving the car at idle and wait till it reaches just over normal temp, the thermofan should fire up. if it doesnt, either the thermostat (plugged into your radiator with a wire running out of it) or the fan itself is stuffed. Thats if its an electric one.

if its a clutch driven one, make sure its engaging.

other possible problems are as mentioned thermostat (the mechanical one), also mentioned clogged water lines, and waterpump

Get the radiator flushed (or re-cored if its farked)

trailerbitch if on the money, the thermofan doesnt cut in at all. so that'll definately need fixing, not gonna run the car in this heat lol. i'll drive the sigma during the day until then.

also i'm gonna see if i can run a switch to the cabin so i can turn the fan on manually, might be a good idea.

              thanks all for the replies.

to test if the fan is cactus, wait till the engine is just over half heated up, then try and kick start the fan with a screw driver (dont use fingers) if it tries to spin then grumbles to a stop, your getting power, but the brushes or something in the fan are rewted. otherwise check the thermostat is sending signal at the correct temp
