How to change my ignition key lock??

    Hey guys,
Got a bit of a problem with my VN Commodore ute - The bloody key wont turn in the ignition!!!!
It just shat itself yesterday and now I'm stuck in the shit.
I checked my workshop manual and it reckons I need to have the ignition switched on and insert a 25mm pin into a small hole to replace the barrel - but I've tried for hours to get the barrel to turn with the key to no avail....
I tried squirting in some wd40, and a whole heap of black crud came out with the key, and I'm majorly broke after xmas to have to replace all key locks.
    Any ideas guys?
    Cheers,
    Cheddo.

you *might* get it to turn with a big screwdriver, just be careful you dont damage your steering column in the process.

take all the covers off around the steering wheel, and pull the switch out and use a screw driver in that, then try and work out a way of turning the steering lock off

The key barrel and the column lock are usually one unit.

You will need a cold chisel (or a very tough screwdriver) and a hammer. Remove the cowling around the steering column and ignition barrel. You will notice the screws holding the 2 parts of the lock together have had the heads sheared off - you will need to somehow create a slot for a screwdriver in the heads of the screws - that's where the cold chisel and hammer comes into it.

Bash a slot into each screw head, then you can undo them like any ordinary screw and remove the ignition lock and barrel. You can probably remove a small electrical block from the back of the ignition barrel and use a screwdriver into the block to operate the ignition.

Take the ignition barrel to a locksmith to have it repaired.

Sort of a cross between a chisel and a screwdriver. Usually a rod shape (maybe round, but often hexagonal), probably 2cm diam and about 200 mm long. 1 end is shaped like a screwdriver / chisel blade. Tho other end is usually burred (from having the crap bashed out of it with a big MoFo of a hammer)

to put it in lay mans terms its a special chisel for metal, cant undo a bolt, dont have oxy, use a cold chisel and hammer.

Chisels are the favoured tools of Fitters and Turners, along with big hammers.

Friends Commo had same problem, he found that if you stick key in, then lift, then turn, it worked.
