    Jammed Seatbelt

the drivers seatbelt in my sigma likes to occasionally jam itself into position, much like it should if you would pull it hard and it acts as an inertia reel belt should in a crash situation.

problem is the reel locks in this position. anyone else had this sort of trouble? any tips on how to fix this?

    cheers.

I have no idea of whether it's a similar contruction, but I'm told that the reason most Volvoid ones (well, 240 ones) behave like this is that they just fill-up with dust. You can apparently pull them completely apart, clean them, re-grease the appropriate bits, & put them back together again; but it's a bit of a PITA to get the springs to go back together with the right tension, and it's fun to lose an eye when it all initially goes *SPROING* as well.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Chances are the car was once in a prang and somethings stuffed in it.

Just get a new belt and mechanism. Unless you don't consider your saftey worth that.....

The problem I had with my R32's (passenger) belt is it wouldn't retract properly. Turned out to be one of the little (nylon?) gear wheels falling apart.

Put a new belt assembly in, problem solved.

at work we had a problem with one of the seat belts in the bobcat, problem is you have to wear the seat belt, it has to clicked in for the bobcat to operate, i found a well placed finger in the reel would alow the belt to extend to the length needed.

had the same problem in the Scorp... seems to be a mitsubishi thing....
Replace the whole assembly, I tried fixing mine but it could be a number of things... most probably a snapped plastic thingymabob or a broken spring or a missing ooberflaggin.

I have had this problem in a couple of r31 skylines and a magna. Turns out it would only happen under certain conditions.
If the belt was unbuckled before the car had completely stopped moving and when the car was on a bit of an angle. ie the ground was not flat. Usually comes good once the car is moved to level ground and the belt shaken a few times.

anyway problem is solved (for now!) although we did have to pull the seatbelt assembly off with the car on level gound and give the inertia reel doohickey a few knocks....

i'm pretty sure its an old design thing. a gear wheel may seize up, something may be caught in there, maybe its just getting old. i'll have to look at getting the thing replaced if it keep doing this more often.

the car was never involved in any serious prang.

                thanks for the replies everyone!
