Are L-series 4 & 6 cyl gearboxes interchangeable?

Well, 5 speeds are longer than 4s and all that stuff. Crossmembers generally aren't interchangeable.

Ok. That would mean non-interchangeable.

As I'm getting a new box for my zed soon, we were thinking of using my old box to replace the rooted column shift box in our basher 720 ute. That'd be a no go I imagine?

You wont really want it.
Pops out of 2nd and 5th on dececleration from high revs. Pain in the arse.

Anyhow, when I finish building the L28 and it goes in my car, the L26 and this box will be replacing the L20 in the ute. That should be interesting.

On that topic, a 6 cyl L wont fit straight on the 4 cly mounts will it? Not that that's a problem....we can knock up some dodgy mounts.

I'd fix it!

The gearbox would fit the L20, or L18 if it is still the standard 720 engine. But you might just need a shortened tailshaft, a new shifter hole and a crossmember. I'm not really sure on the 720, they don't get modified so often here in Oz.

Oh...yeah just remembered, it's not a 260Z box in my zed.

Actually I'm not sure what it is. It has a close 1st and 2nd, then a large gap to third, then close again between 3rd, 4th and 5th. I'm guessing it's a K box, but i can't be sure. When I get the new box in (maybe in a few weeks time) then we'll be able to work out what it is. The previous owner reconed it's some whizz bang great box that everyone wants to get their hands on and is rare as. I wouldn't believe anything he said though.
