    gearbox problem

    hi,
usually my gearbox slips into all gears well without crunching. however recently when i try and put it in reverse, no matter how i try to change it crunches into gear quite harshly. on occasions it is also very very difficult to put into first gear. with the clutch fully depressed the stick seems to be pushing against something and slightly starts to move the car forward. if rolling, it will easily go into first.

the clutch is only about 6 months old. could something up with the clutch cable?? or is it a syncromesh problem?

    its a 4spd manual in an mk2 escort 1600.
    thanks guys

It's fairly definitely a clutch issue,. either adjustment, or a sign that the linkage is worn, cable is stretched, or the master or slave cyl has a problem (depending on if it's mechanical, cable or hydraulically operated respectively)

It's not the synchros, though leaving it long enough will screw up the first gear synchro (for reference about 95 percent of passenger car boxes don't have any synchro on reverse at all)
