Best way to remove Carbon from valves?

Currently doing valve stem seals and noticed the valves have a lot of carbon build up around them, just wondering what is the best way to clean them up without damaging them?

    Thanks

Soak em in Brake Cleaner then give em a hit with a wire brush.

Thanks will try those suggestions when I get home from work. Wire brush on drill or just by hand?

Are those scotch brite pads that you use on the 90 degree die grinder any good or will they do damage?

I know this is kind of left field, but I think a wire wheel on a bench grinder might be the go.

Couldn't you use a bench grinder for this? With a wire wheel.

Or maybe a bench wheel with a wire grinder will take the carbon off the valves?

Ended up using the wire wheel on the bench grinder along with some brake cleaner and oven cleaner, cannot believe this wasn't suggested!

Anyway happy with the way things turned out, actually came off quite easily.

                              Thanks all for the advice
