2014 SR5 Hilux aircon is fucking me

As per title, got an SR5 Hilux that the A/C is fucked on. Was working perfectly sunday. Got back in monday morning and it only blows hot air.

Seemed weird and thought it might just need gas. Took it to a mates place who has a gauge for refilling, still has gas and is pretty much full.

Mechanically, the compressor still kicks on/off when pressing the a/c button. Tested the switch on the side of the condenser - it seems fine (within ohm's and cuts the compressor when unplugged while the a/c is running). Thought the filter behind the glovebox might be blocked, pulled it out and it's near new (same hot air result even with it removed entirely). Tested the relay behind the cluster, in working order and it still triggers the compressor correctly when pressing the switch.

Not really sure what else to check at this point?

    tl;dr:

    compressor works
    no leaks in system
    gas is full
relay is working as well as temp switch on the condenser

30+ days lately and no a/c is pretty fucking painful after being in a roof for hours on end.

When your AC isnt on, but your fan still is, does your temperature control change the output from hot to cold, or is that only blowing hot too?

Are the high/low pressures ok? Just because the compressor clutch kicks in doesn’t mean it’s doing any compressing

Is the hot/cold dial actually working?
The cable can pop off the heater box, but you should feel that with the dial. If so, you can see it from the drivers side footwell.

Not sure how to multi-quote -

Mr Ree - Both just blow hot hair, regardless of temp control, but if i understand correctly, the heater will blow hotter air when the temp button is pressed/raised, if that's what you meant?

bpm - yep, both high/low pressures are within spec and normal

do the safety dance - mine is the model with the push button climate control. i believe the part number is 840130K160, so not actually a dial. Seems no different on monday morning than it did on sunday but might pull it apart incase some beer/water got in there although all the buttons seem to function as they should.

Do the low side pipes in the engine bay get cold/condensated?

Should be a reset procedure for the climate control.

Most of the vents should have temp sensors in them, so worth looking into that with a scan tool too.

No, they don't. I think you're right. The compressor seems cooked.

Bob Vegana - I did reset the climate control and there don't seem to be any codes stored.

andy_wk - heater tap works as it should.

Will order a new compressor and get it re-gassed and report back.

Confirm it's the compressor before you buy one, they aren't cheap!

                      similar issue.

                      Mine blows hot air.

Been checked by 2 different places and both say there is no leaks but 30 mins after leaving the bussiness (they do a top up) she's blowing hot again !!

                        Is the actual compressor spinning?

Im not really sure what else to check at this point. No leaks/system holds vacuum. System has sufficient gas. As stated above, low pressure side does not feel cold at all to touch, nor does it get any condensation what so ever. It's just hot when the A/C is running at full tilt. The clutch on the compressor still engages and the compressor still spins when the button is activated. It just seems to not actually be compressing anything...

Found a Denso (OEM?) for $325inc (trade price). I can just use my old gas when i evacuate the system so at this point, I think it's worth the gamble.

If anyone else has any ideas before I pull the trigger, I'm open to any suggestions.

Take to a mechanic for diagnosis? If the compressor is kicking in and out I don't you no that's your problem.

System holds pressure != system has correct amount of refrigerant. Did you re fill the system, with the correct weight? If you're recycling gas, how do you know it's dry?
