I have been waiting for someone to start talking about torque, but they haven't, so i might give it a go...
Power will not kill a gearbox torque will....(blah...blah)
I dont think that a 2L engine could (esp one on gas) kill even the non-turbo 5 spd, people have put them behind 300-350hp v8's and they have lasted quite a while. I doubt your engine will have as much torque as the V8's.Originally posted by tandy assGot a 97 cielo for free (I think i got ripped off)

Thanks for the info on the ratios Forg. Your right, google is good but performance forums is pretty good as well. lol
I was suprised with the ratios on the v160. I always thought 6th gear was some super low .50 or something. I guess now that I know it isnt, it doesnt appeal as much to me.
I think I like the r 154 ratios the best, with the w58 being pretty good as well.
That sounds reasonable to me. Does anyone know of any other 2.0 litre engines that could do that on straight LPG, and are an easy fit into a tc cortina?Originally posted by NeroA turbo 16v pinto on LPG and runnin 11's...cost oh say $6-8000 for the engine, including tune.
But lately I have been thinking about LPG turboing the 4.1 crossflow and slapping a w58 or r154 behind that. But I guess torque then becomes an issue, possibly a big issue.

Go the 4.1. There dead easy to get big grunt out of if you wack the snail off the side. They don't need to be revved that hard and go an auto. How many manual cars do you see running consistent 10-11'secs? Not too many but there is always an exception. The 4.1 will make big lazy power from down low where a 2L pinto will shake your teeth loose at the rpm's needed to get 450kw. LPG will work but its so simple to tune a efi car nowdays. Mine ran efi and you couldn't ask for a better set up, although I doubt mine would have got close to the 12 second bracket let alone what you want to get down into.

Oh it (the pinto will make the power with the 16v head.....won't last long mind. Say 3-5000km at best at those cyl pressures, assuming the block is a good one.I don't care a damn for your loyalty when you think I am right; when I really want it most is when you think I am wrong.

W57 with Dellow rotary bell-housing was a bit over 35kg, IIRC. No oil.
FWIW, the old Celica "steel-case" (actually cast iron...) was 45kg by the same measure.
