1hd fte horrid fuel consumption, need help sunshine coast north brisbane

I own a 2005 100 series landcruiser (1hdfte) and it's getting horrible fuel consumption, especially when towing my caravan ( I rent it out to pay for it, I'm still poor lol) does anyone know someone that knows 1hds well around the Sunshine Coast or North Brisbane area?

I think some sort of indication of what "horrid" actually is may be in order.

I have no idea of what a Landcruiser might actually consume, but if I were to see a number like 28 litres per 100 km whilst towing a caravan I'd likely think that's what I might expect. I've driven many kilometres in Landcruisers but never given a moments thought as to the fuel consumption because they were owned by mining and oil&gas companies. All I know is they are terrible things, but the best you can buy.

What L/100 with and without the van? How many KM on the clock? Service history? Usually fuel consumption increases with these relate directly back to the injectors/pump.

Just Autos are very good with 1VD's, so maybe try them. And they are just around the corner from you

Replace your air filter and fuel filter to start with.

Low hanging fruit, I know, but cheap and easy to do yourself.

From memory we were getting around 20 litres per 100 last time we towed the caravan and now it's getting 28l per 100. Does anyone else have a 1hdfte and tow a caravan
          our caravan is 2600kg
The car is well serviced, but the pump, injectors etc have never been done it's got 350000klms and seems to run fine
I've done the air filter recently
I was thinking maybe the cat has started to die

              Not quite 100 series but...

I had a FTE/5 speed auto in an 80 series. With a fully.loaded Kedron van on the back, 315/75/16 BFG muddies, 3.5m tinny on the roof, all the gear ,etc, the WORST it ever got was 22/100. If fuel and/or air filter are suspect, they will be down on power, if injectors are suspect, the fuel goes up, power stays the same

I spoke to my 1HD FTE man, he tows a pop up behind at 110 km and gets as bad as 22 litres per 100 km it only weighs 1800 kg though and it isn't much bulkier than the vehicle (Doesn't have so much drag)

                  28L/100km is pretty fucking bad.

The caravan isn't dragging a brake/flat tyre or something silly?

Otherwise the injection system is about all that can go wrong. Or it's not making boost.

Does it feel sluggish or throw out lots of soot under load?
