    DIY engine balancing

Can it be done by someone with no experience in engine balancing? can anyone give me some pointers on the general procedure used, or any good write ups on how to do it?

I'm not looking to get it spot on or anything, just to get it a bit better than the factory did.

    Thanks,
    Justin

rods yes, pistons yes, the rest no comment...but probably not worth the risk!

From the link OH64 posted (has now disappeared), it sounds like it's best left in the hands of professionals.

a crank and rods has to be spun quite fast to balance it...that's a lot of mass that could come loose and hurt!

these days new motors are made to such fine tolerances that balancing isn't as critical as it was say 20 years ago, the manufacturer has taken the time to do it for you. Still worth doing, especially on older motors.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

                This is for an L26.

If the new motor is anything like the L currently in my car, it needs it.
I have heard from quite a few z car people that balancing the L6 does make a BIG difference to how they drive.

I had my engine balanced inc flywheel, clutch and harmonic balancer with pulleys attached and it cost me $180. It made a massive difference, its smoother and revs better. Its a RB30ET
