    Fuel Pump Dramas

OK i picked up a bosche 910 fuel pump 2nd hand about 6months ago but have only got around to installing it now. I have setup a 30amp relay triggered from the ecu and then used 4mm wire to the pump. With the relay switched on I get 12 volts from the battery (with ignition on aswell).

Problem is the pump doesn't do anything. I can hear it click on and it gets hot but no pumping. With the car running im only getting 13.1volts to the battery instead of the usual 13.9-14volts. So it seems its drawing a lot of current (hence getting hot) but yet it refuses to switch on.

I did however get it to work by connecting it to the 12volt battery charger which i assume puts out about 14-15volts. Its pretty loud which is expected.

Oh and another thing the pump is mounted external but it isn't pumping fuel yet (fuel lines not connected yet) because i want it to work before I got chopping up my fuel lines. So will it make a difference if the stock pump is supplying it with fuel?

Or is it a total dud in which i need to buy another?

    Cheers

sounds like a dud to me. sometimes you can dismantle the end of the pump, if it's been sitting around it may have a bit of crap lodged in the pump rollers.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

I'm not sure what type of pump the 910 is internally, but you can ruin some EFI pumps by running them dry.
If it has 12v at the fuel pump then look at the quality of the earth.

Yeah im pretty sure its stuffed. Its a 12volt pump says on it. Will only run from the 12 Volt charger but drains so much current it switches its fuse off.

Couldn't get it to work from the car even with it running. Oh well

I think you have burnt it out running it dry, sorry.

Have you got a primer pump feeding it? most bosch pumps require an intank primer, ie: they wont suck fuel.
