Manual Gearbox and Diff Cooler Pumps

What have people here used or seen used as oil circulation pumps for Manual gearbox cooler systems and differential cooler systems?

VDO make a small electric pump for the job but its $385

I have heard one of the holley fuel pumps (blue or red?) can be used once the oil is hot.

The other method I have seen is a mechanical pump driven off the tailshaft.

I want to avoid a mechanical setup so electric pumps look to be the go.

    Thanks in advance

Both Albins and APEP make electric oil pumps as well as a couple of other companies. The oil is going to be far too thick and hot for a fuel pump....why do you need it?

have a look at the electric motor brass bodied pumps used for pumping oil around in boats. perfect for the job - but I think they start at around $200.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

Interesting. I was just thinking tonight of increasing the "sump" size of the Colloti in my 125.
Would a pump be required if I increased the sump volume by ~1litre without a cooler, it is currently only 1.65. I am quite paranoid about this gearbox as it is in such good condition and they apparently do not cope for very long behind motors with much more torque then standard. The oil is getting changed frequently.

The VDO ones are good. Are they really that pricey ?
Tilton also do a good oil pump.

I was talking to Howard Bell about his recently (Litre8) as he just fitted an oil pump and cooler for his box. His problem was the box only holds 1L of oil and he figured it might get hot too fast.
He was going to go with the VDO but chose the Tilton instead..... can't remember why though.

dattoman1000 the price I saw was in the GRP catalogue I think, although it did have written next to it "Used by most V8 Supercar teams", that being said we run them on our supercars but no one can remember buying them so I don't know what we actually paid.

Will have a look around for the tilton one.

ah, well the GTP subbies used an oil addative in the box that dropped oil temps 40 deg. If you are interested phone Phill Bugge at bits of italy in Dandenong and tell him that I sent you (Neil from Race). Phill used to prep and run a STI for a customer...this solved their box issues in one go.
