here is what i've been recommended by PIRTEK

    what do you guys think?
im really considering changing to EARLS or SUREFLOW
cost difference is about 300 - 400% increase

      also
      i've spoken to PIRTEK
they say they use those fittings on the KONICA cars (spelling)
      on the V8 racecars..

they say the 90 degree compact fitting is fine..
the only difference is a little bit of heat increase / reduction in flow
but nothing big enough to damage anything

      what do you guys think?

i personally am leaning on the good expensive fittings over the brass fittings..

No way do they use barbed/ hose clamped fittings on a v8 or konica car.

Up to you mate- the full flow fittings are much better, but they are made to work with proper braided hose with double acting hose fittings.

My setup looks just like yours bazeng. Not started my car up since i rebuilt the motor so i can't tell you how the oil pressure etc is though.
As soon as i start it up i can let you know if they affect my pressure readings or anything though .
I should be getting around 100psi on cold start and at least 20psi at idle from memory.

Yep the proper speedflow ends are pretty expensive, your looking at about $50-$60 for a -10 90 deg fitting..... I have 6 in my setup.

I guess you just have to look at it thinking your never ever going to have to buy the fittings again & oil flow is a pretty important thing..... I was going to do mine cheap but made the decision to go with braided lines and fittings (i was just lucky that some fittings i required came up cheap at the exact time i was looking for them).

            btw, nice looking setup there.

Strangely enough trade price at petroject seems to be the best price around (well atleast for -6).

                -6 straight 100 series = $7.50
                -6 90 deg 100 series = $23.50

I’d imagine the -10 stuff would still be fairly cheap through them, but can’t hurt to shop around.

                  thats a good price
                  i've checked on ebay
they are going for $17.00 USD for a 90

                  where is petrojet located?

Is there a speedflow catalouge online by any chance?
I have an earls catalouge but i don't recall their parts being that cheap, it might pay me to change three 90 degree fittings my setup has that are just brass right angles. The ones going into my cooler are nice earls ones at least.

                      www.speedflow.com.au

Keep in mind the prices I quoted were for -6 (not -10).

Tim510 paid $50 each for -10 90 deg fittings from extreme motorsports in Brisbane (but has also spent about 3k there in the last few months) so anywhere around that price is a bargain.

                        are crimped fittings any good?
i've just made a few calls and there is a nice supplier down in dandynong near my area..

                        crimed fittings, hydrolic stuff

                        rubber, not braided..
but im more concerned about flow, cosmetically, you wont see these bits

Don't think braiding is of any use accept for cosmetic and wear if it rubs. I have my rubber hoses wrapped in that nylon looking spiral wrap stuff.
The earl's fittings i used were alot easier than crimping cos you could work it all out in the shed then just fit the lines right then and there.

                            Ditto.

speedflow/earls/Aeroquip ends are also re-usable (so if you make a farkup you can re-attach the end, or make new lines with old ends etc)

The crimped ones are the best in terms of pressure capabilities and ultimate strength. However the fittings need to be perfectly indexed when they are being made, as they have no movement radially at all once crimped. If you get it wrong they will undo themselves every time..

The tube and cutter typoe speedflow fittings (and earls and aeroquip and...) are nearly as good pressure wise, but you can re use them and set tehm up at home. Sometimes they are radially adjustable after assembly, at least you can always re do a hose if you make it really wrong. They all are specifically designed for one type and brand of hose only. They are not interchangeable.

All the other barbed fittings are the same- they are a lot less strong than a proper crimped or tube/cutter fitting. They MAY be good enough for you but no matter what the guy says, they are nowhere near the other fittings in terms of strength/ reliability. Even if you use the little pretend ferrule that hides the cut end of the hose (for whatever reason they reckon that is needed :D) It comes down to being a hose clamp type arrangement with barbs to hopefully stop the hose pulling off.

At the very least use a really good hosecalmp that is made of stainless steel, and re torque them with the system hot.

if you use the aero quip hose and speedflow 400 series fittings you will never have a problem, good for 300psi with out a hose clamp and reuseable!
