Soft vs medium Z221 Hankook Ventus TD

On a cold day at Wakefield in July, what tyre would be quicker in 265 35 18 for a heavy, track pig.

Is there a huge difference between the compounds?
I have a pair of medium Z221 and a pair of soft.

Will the softs be quicker for the first 3 laps, then go to mush?

If I use the softs on the front, will they last the full day with 3.5 deg neg camber and toe out which tend to chew the insides.

I'd be keen to know if you find a good price on these. Taleb have them for $250 but only in soft. From my extremely limited understanding the softs are really soft similar to the soft A050's. I could be wrong but I'd say you need mediums for sprints.

Hankook soft = everyone else's medium
      Hankook medium = hard compound

      use the softs

I reckon the softs Z221s are quicker outright. The fastest evo boys are using them in 265/35/18, and with the lead tipped arrow 60:40 weight distribution we're probably not much lighter than you at the front. Although unlike RWDs us evos can run a lot of rear spring/bar to dial out the push.

The main issue probably is are you consistent enough to get the fast lap in if the window before they overheat is short.

Only one way to find out :D

          That is my concern.
I usually do an out lap, then a warm up lap, then a few laps as quick as I can manage assuming no cunt pulls out on the race line (see videos). This fat barge only has one line and no opportunity to re-adjust.

Haha love the commentary. Obviously you're too much of a gentleman and need to divebomb people etc to keep your lap going :p

How long would a set of mediums last on a street car? It does very little kms, but would like to be able to drive to Wakefield from Sydney without destroying them... ?

                  Am I dreaming ?

And you're also wasting heat cycles on the street.

It's about to go to heasmans to be set up. Corner weights etc. I'll be asking for a bit of an 'all round' kind of deal. I'd still expect 2-3 deg neg on the front.

Out of lazyness drove to Wakefield and back on medium Z221, wear suprisingly wasn't noticeable. -3 camber and 0 toe. I suspect with any more camber or any toe it would wear much worse though.

I have a pair of soft and a pair of mediums. As the
Fronts cop a much harder time at Wakefield, especially the left, I'm thinking of trying the softs on the back, mediums on the front. I usually adjust my corner entry speeds to adjust to the grip level difference between front and rear. If the softcocks are getting too hot will spray them with water in between sessions and may even drive into Goulburn to have them flipped on the rim, if they are shagged on one edge.

Thanks for the advice though as the softs at buladelah hillclimb showed noticeable wear on just a few 40 sec Hillclimbs.....and that was on the front with no burnouts.

Love this left field car and what you do with it, auto FTW. Maybe I should get one and leave it in the shed for the occasional circuit run, what has been done to it to make it track worthy?
