    Yeah it has a 'rubber' seal around the lid. The paint around the seal on the exterior is now less than perfect also.
    I think silicon DOT5 fluid will avoid this happening in the future..

    Ok, this is why I started looking at DOT5. This bike has done 300 miles in the 3 years since I last rebuilt the front brakes..
    I opened it today and found this:



    I'm going to convert it to DOT5 as a experiment....

    Been chipping away at this as time permits, with a couple of setbacks.

    I leak checked the fuel tanks overnight many months ago before painting them and they were okay.
    Once installed in the car the RH tank developed a tiny leak 2 weeks...

  • I remember when this happened there were closeup images of the throttle linkage ciculating.
    After seeing those pics I was pretty sure it jammed open. It was such a shit setup....

    DOT5 is silicone based.

    DOT5.1 is glycol just like DOT3 & DOT4 (all hydroscopic) I'm asking about DOT5 -silicon based fluid...

    I have a couple of shitters I rarely ride/drive and I find I'm often doing brake repairs and seeing paint damage on brake parts etc.
    Does anyone actually use silicon DOT5 fluid in this type of application?

    Any reasons not to?
